THE HOME

POPCH

Located in Tianjin, the Prince of Peace Children’s Home (POPCH) is the very first official foreign-run children’s home in China. It is funded by POP’s Foundation (POPF) and managed by World Vision International, China, a world-renowned humanitarian organization.

We are working with the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) to train more leaders, students, and caretakers from various orphanages in China. POPCH is the designated training base of the Training College of the MCA . We are striving to set a new standard of love and care for orphanages throughout China.

Facilities at POPCH

The Prince of Peace Children’s Home was first funded by two international charities, POP’s Foundation and World Vision International, China. It then formed a joint venture with the Civil Affairs Bureau of Wuqing, Tianjin. The three partners invested more than RMB 6.55 million to construct the POPCH facility.

Life at POPCH

The majority of our children are cared for in a “small group home” model to foster healthy, stable attachments to the same caregiver “parents”. Every day, children participate in a variety of activities designed specifically to meet their educational, social, developmental, and physical needs; this is to promote independence and self-reliance.

Where do these children come from?

Our children are referred to us through the Tianjin Children’s Welfare Institute. Although gender equity is slowly becoming the social norm in China, children with disabilities are often still seen as an embarrassment to their families. Even for parents who desire to keep their child, economic hardship and special circumstances can force families to abandon their child. Once a child is in our care, we are committed to providing for his or her needs until a better opportunity is made available to them, such as adoption into a permanent family.

Adoption

While many of our children are adopted regularly, from the first day, we chose not to be involved in the adoption process of our children, that we’ll not be misunderstood that we are in this for profit. All adoptions are to be handled by the China Centre for Adoption Affairs (CCCWA) in Beijing via an agency in your home country. We are not privy to any information e.g. when the child’s dossiers go to CCAA, which agency/country the dossiers are sent to, and to whom the children are matched till after the adoption process is completed.
