In the afternoon of March 19, the National Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (OCAO), Qiu Yuanping, visited the Prince of Peace Children’s Home, supported by Mr. Kenneth Yeung and the Florentia Village, invested by Mr. Howard Li at the Wuqing District, to understand overseas charitable and business investments in Tianjin. The Deputy Mayor of Tianjin, Ren Xuefeng, and officials from the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Tianjin City and of Wuqing District also accompanied Director Qiu for these visits. She cordially visited children with special needs who are resuming their abilities through rehabilitation, and had a good understanding of the operations of the children’s home. She praised this charitable operation that has been supported by Mr. Kenneth Yeung for many years, and pointed out that this is a model and example of charitable projects resulted by overseas contributions. Director Qiu was also briefed on the operation of the Florentia Village operations and new project development, mentioned after the presentation; the majority of the overseas Chinese investments have made great contributions to China’s economic development while achieving their career goals. The success of overseas investments should be summarized and referenced. The Overseas Chinese Affair Office should take note on local condition, strengthen its forward guidance, aggregate the effect of overseas Chinese investments, and play a more important role in the implementation of national development strategies.
Director Qiu also attended the ceremony of contribution recognizing the donations from Mr. Kenneth Yeung and Mr. Howard Li to Prince of Peace Children’s Home in the amounts of US$400,000 and RMB$1,000,000, respectively. After the ceremony, Director Qiu had a round table with Mr. Yeung, Mr. Li, and other Municipal of Civil Affairs and OCAO officials.
